Uber is taking over Toronto by storm, offering reduced rides for passengers in and around the city. Many couples have been asking about Ubers versus taxis and limos, so here’s our breakdown.
Uber is known to be cheaper than taxis, costing about 50% less in major metropolitan areas like Toronto, according to The 10 and 3.
Most couples choose Uber Black over UberX. Uber Black lets you ride in style – drivers will pick you up directly where you are in a posh car and chauffeur you around. This service is comparable to a limo car. It depends on how far you’re going, but in most cases Uber Black is cheaper than a prearranged car through a limo service.
That being said, Uber Black cannot be scheduled beforehand, meaning couples should schedule more time if taking an Uber. The wait can be up to 15 minutes or more depending on the time of day and the weather. If a tight schedule is required and time is limited, a limo service may still be the better option.
Uber doesn’t offer a limo service in Toronto, so there’s no direct comparison. Some couples have been opting to order multiple Uber Blacks for them and their wedding party/immediate family. Again, this just requires more time scheduled for travel, but in most cases will cost less money than a limo will.
One thing to note is that Uber is offering a new initiative, called UberEVENTS, which allows you to purchase rides for your guest. Don’t worry about how guests get home, especially after an open bar. Overall, Uber is a cheaper alternative to a limo service, but will take more time, especially for larger wedding parties. Limo services may still be preferred by couples that have different venues for their ceremony and reception, and/or have photos at multiple locations.
