It’s a Small World After All

Last weekend was truly memorable for everybody. As one person put it, “A prince gets married, the bad guy is dead, it’s a real Disney weekend.”  For Devoted to You, it’s been a hectic weekend as well.  That’s because we were given the honour of exhibiting at one of the most trendiest wedding shows in Toronto, the Spring Wedding Show, organized by The Wedding Co. The event took place at the hip The Drake Hotel on Saturday from 10am to 4pm. This was the last wedding show I was going to do before the baby comes.

On Saturday morning, Stella and I headed down to The Drake Hotel to set up our booth.  The challenge for us (I love a good challenge) was trying to be creative with a 4 x 2 foot table to showcase our company.  We opted to follow the spring theme of the show and created a garden tea party-esque display:

We had a great time mingling with newly engaged couples and networking with the exhibiting vendors.  It’s great to meet these extraordinary vendors in person and get to know them personally rather than just reading about them online.  If you’re planning on getting married or are recently engaged, a wedding show is an all-in-one resource for information and can help you visualize your wedding theme.  Below I’ve highlighted some of the more interesting booths.

Whether you are a vintage fan or planning a vintage-style wedding, here are three vendors from the show that may interest you.

1. Vintage China Hire, originally from England, has opened shop in Toronto renting out English vintage china and hand-embroidered linens for weddings, showers, and tea parties.  Their enormous collection and accessories range from the Victorian era to the florals of the 1940’s & 50’s.

3. This charming floral display by Coriander Girl and the vintage bottles and jar accents are also available for rental:

Looking for new entertainment ideas at your wedding or engagement party? Do it with style by hiring someone to script your love story into a play performed by professionals. Jennifer Goodhue, writer/director and Jen Wilkinson, creative director of Tell Me a Love Story are the brains behind the company. They can make your event a memorable one.

The bonus for me was that I got to meet a jewellery designer, Joanna from Belle Boutique. She was actually the one who made my favourite necklace, which coincidentally I wore at the show.  It was funny how we met…she asked me where I got my necklace and then said she was the designer! It’s a small world after all!

Finally, here a video made by Honey and Dear cinematography, one of the exhibiting vendors there.  Also check out The Wedding Co website for more pictures.

Xoxo

POV: you’re supposed to be enjoying teamLab Planets… but your event planner brain won’t switch off. 😂

The projections. The music. The scent. The movement. The way every room makes you feel something.

I went for the experience and left thinking about the future of weddings and events.

Because what if the next big event trend isn’t more décor… but creating a world your guests can actually step into? 👀✨

Are immersive projections about to have their moment in events?

Wedding planner content: lighting candles, fixing menus and casually walking around looking put together. ✨

The reality? That’s probably 10% of the job. 😂

The other 90% is happening behind the scenes — nonstop texts and phone calls, weather decisions, last-minute changes, communicating with vendors before they arrive, adjusting timelines and solving things before our couples ever know there was a problem.

Those moments are rarely captured because… well, we’re usually too busy doing them.

So shoutout to Garbo for catching some of the real action at Amy & Brian’s wedding. 🤍

This is what wedding planning actually looks like.

A day in the life of a wedding planner ✨ Amy & Brian’s wedding day edition.

We went back and forth on the rain plan more times than I’d like to admit 🌧️☀️ — but in the end, the weather gave us the most beautiful golden hour, followed by fireworks to close out the night. 🎆

One of my favourite parts of this wedding was bringing a full Chinese catering experience into a venue that doesn’t host this style of service often. It takes a lot of coordination behind the scenes — between the venue, caterer, kitchen, rentals and our planning team — to make everything flow seamlessly.

And this is exactly the kind of challenge I love. When everyone comes together with professionalism, flexibility and a shared goal of creating the best experience for the couple and their guests, magic happens.

Congratulations Amy & Brian! ❤️

People often ask what I notice first when I arrive at a venue.
It isn’t the flowers.
Or the view.
It’s how every piece comes together to create a feeling.

Before every destination wedding, I always thinking about:
• How guests will experience the ceremony
• Where the light falls
• The flow of the space
• The details no one notices—until they’re missing

This is what a wedding looks like through a planner’s eyes.

Save this if you love seeing what happens before the celebration begins.
