It was freeeezing cold today with temperatre -30C and still a lot of brides and grooms to be showed up to our seminar. We were suprised that many of the grooms-to-be sat still and listen to the talks about bridal dresses and makeup. As a bride, what else is more important than looking great on the wedding day after all the stressful planning? In our 4th session, we are proud to have Betty Lai, the designer of This is Art to share her knowledge with us on the 2011 Wedding gown trends and how to pick the right dress that makes a statement for yourself. Betty had studied graphic, commercial and fashion design prior to deciding to focus on fashion design. She has years of dress design experience and has created over 600 unique custom made dresses for various customers. The majority of her work is focus on brides and bridal parties, but she has also created many evening gown designs that have been showcased at local and international events.
Betty also talked about things that you need to be aware of when shopping for a bridal gown – whether it is at a bridal store, warehouse sale or online and how to check if the gown is sold at a reasonable price.
If you couldn’t make it to our session today, you’ve also missed out the talk given by a world class make up artist, Emmy Leung. Emmy became active in Hong Kong’s make-up scene since 1980s and she was the chief make-up artist in a number of high-profile fashion shows. She worked as the make-up artist for a lot of album covers, fashion magazines, TV commercials, printed ads and concerts in both Hong Kong and Toronto. She’s also the chief makeup artist of Fairchild Television Toronto and had played a very important role in all the shows from the first Miss Toronto Chinese Pageant and the first New Talent Singing Contest to date. In 2002, Emmy was invited by Columbia Pictures to be the make-up artist for Mr. Chow Yuen Fat for the Hollywood production, The Bullet Proof Monk.
Topics that Emmy had touched on today include how to prepare your face for the big day in advance – skincare for the brides and groom, what to look out for when hiring a professional makeup artist and the right type of makeup for wedding day and evening reception and a lot of handful make up tips for touch ups and etc!
